Welcome to Bill Simmermaker's Personal Page
Thanks for visiting my personal page!
It seems everyone one I talk to knows someone who has or had Parkinsons. They say "A relative or a friend of mine had it so I know what you are going through!" I was one of those people. My Uncle had it and I watched him suffer through it for 30 years! I could see every time I visited him and my Aunt how it affected him and also how it affected my Aunt. I felt so helpless because there was absolutely nothing I could do for them.
When I was diagnosed, because of my previous experience, I was devastated. I thought, "I know what he went through and how am I going to do this? More importantly, how is my family going to do this? As it turned out, I had no idea what my Uncle was going through, until I started experiencing things from his side of the glass! The depression, the frustration, the unknown all overwhelmed me. My family and friends have been an unbelievable source of support and I will be eternally grateful for that. Fortunately the combination of drugs has seemed to help, but so much more research has to be done. We can beat this!

This September I will join 1,000 walkers across Southwestern Ontario taking part in WALK-IT for Parkinson’s. Funds raised at WALK-IT for Parkinson's will go to support services, education, advocacy and research.
Why WALK-IT for Parkinson's?
Regular physical activity can help slow the progression of Parkinson’s symptoms, so let’s help the Parkinson’s community in Southwestern Ontario keep active. Show your support for those affected by Parkinson's by walking with me or sponsoring me. Join the movement for physical activity today and help us reach our goal.
